It is a secure and more reliable platform as it is service offered by google

Cons:

Design options are very less comparatively.
You are not allow to access third party apps and services
Ads will be displayed in your blog

Basically Tumblr is created for “Microblogging”. It is more popular among youngsters as it is very simple to use. It also allows users to share and reblog contents.One of the best features in this platform is that it is focussing on bloggers community.

Easy to use and open source
Providing several designs
Allows user to publish their videos, Audios, Images and other multimedia stuff easily

Cons:

Taking backup or importing your files in some other platform is difficult.
It will not provide any additional features other than the built in features.

Medium:

Medium is a platform where you can see more social networking features ,so it sometimes leads to a debate whether it is a platform or publisher. It is a place where you can share your thoughts among a wider audience as the medium has its own in-built audience.

You will be able to connect with wide audience at the starting stage itself

Cons:

If you ask for my choice,it would be WordPress. Comparatively WordPress is more flexible,easy to use and affordable.So it will be the best choice for the beginners.
